About Library

The Malla Reddy Deemed to be University (MRDU) Central Library began its existence in 2002. With its modern collection, knowledge resources and innovative information services fills an essential role for Students, faculty and the surrounding community in their intellectual pursuits. It is Centralized Air Conditioned fully automated library with the state of the art technological applications with a carpet area of 1858 sq. mtrs.

The Central Library houses over 77,028 volumes and 9,356 titles across various fields, including Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Management. It subscribes to print and e-journals like IEEE, DELNET, J-GATE, SPRINGER and N-LIST.

The library is fully computerized with KOHA software, offering web-based access to the catalog. The library uses an automated barcode system for efficient operations.

Dr. K. Shaiksha Vali is a distinguished Library and Information Science professional with extensive experience in academic library administration, digital repository management, and research support services. He leads the development and automation of the central library system at MRDU.

His expertise encompasses electronic resource management, library automation software, information literacy initiatives, and advanced research support frameworks to assist both students and faculty members in academic excellence.

Circulation Policy Details

  • Renewal of Borrowed Books: Users can renew the books borrowed by them if the same books are not claimed by any other user. Book can be renewed either by bringing them to the library Circulation Counter.
  • General books are issued to all eligible members as per their entitlements.
  • Reference books, bound volumes, pamphlets and standards are issued only to eligible faculty/scholars as specified in guidelines. Only six books can be borrowed on production of card.
  • This book is due on the date stamped. An overdue charge of Rs.1/- per day will be levied.
  • Faculty & Equivalent Staff Members: (i) Two reference books or two bound volumes or one reference book and one bound volume of journal for 3 days. (ii) One loose issue of journal other than the latest against a prescribed form (for overnight borrowing) between 1700-1800 hrs which should be returned before 11.00 hrs next day. (iii) Two standards, photocopies, or pamphlets for 14 days.
  • Research Scholars: Can borrow one reference book or one bound volume of journal for 1 day.
  • Theses, dissertations, CDs, and video cassettes are not lent out of the library.
  • The readers should check the book thoroughly for missing pages, chapters, pictures etc., while borrowing. Mutilated or spoiled books will have to be replaced by the borrower.
  • Books issued will not be accepted back on the same day. Readers can claim (reserve) books already issued at the circulation counter / online.
  • Loss of book must be reported immediately. Late fees, if any, will be charged till the loss of book is reported.

IT Infrastructure

Central Library is a part of the institute-wide network built around a fiber optic Giga-bit Ethernet backbone comprising switches. The library is connected to the backbone through one of the routing switches. Institute’s backbone in turn is connected to 1000 mbps of Internet bandwidth. The library has server, 40 PCs and other accessories adequate to cater to the needs of users. 5 PCs are meant for users to access OPAC, databases, e-books, e-journals and other e-resources. The reading area in the library have been Wi-Fi enabled to provide wireless access to the Internet. Users are welcome to use their laptops in the library.

Specialized Services

Book Bank

Central Library maintains a book bank mainly of undergraduate level text books to help students belonging to economically and socially weaker sections of the society. The bank has two collections namely Special Collection for SC/ST Students Lending Library.

Special Collection for SC/ST Students: Students can borrow up to 5 books from this collection for a period of one semester. The library issues a Circular in the beginning of every Semester and the eligible students may apply as per schedule.

Inter-library Loan Service

The Central Library maintains excellent exchange relations with a number of libraries in the country to borrow or procure books and periodicals not available in-house. Soft/hard copies of articles are procured via publisher vendors and service providers including DELNET, New Delhi.

In case users desire to visit any library in Hyderabad, they can collect an official letter of introduction from the library for this purpose.

Reference Services

Provides guidance in the use of library resources, assists in accessing e-journals, e-books, databases, and conducts library orientation programs. Maintains encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, handbooks, technical data, almanacs, atlases, bibliographies, CD-ROMs, Audio and Video cassettes.

Video and DVD viewing facility is available to students, staff, and faculty from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on all working days.

Study Room Books

Textbooks and course books recommended by faculty are kept in the “Study Room Collection” at the circulation counter. These books can be used within the library against Identity Card.

Students can borrow one book at a time for overnight study and return by 2 PM next day. A late fee of Rs. 10 per day is charged for overdue books (Rs. 20/- per day during examination period).

User Awareness & Orientation

The library takes an active part in the orientation programme organized by the institute for new students at the start of every academic year. Users learn how to utilize resources like OPAC, e-journals, and databases through In-charge, Reference service.

Central Library also organizes training, workshops, and conferences for library and information professionals working in Science and Technology libraries across the country to update their knowledge and skills.

Guidelines & Usage Policy

e-resources: Usage Policy & User Undertaking

Electronic resources such as e-journals, e-databases, and e-books made available by the Central Library are strictly for academic use.

  • Resources can be searched, browsed, and single copies of articles may be downloaded or printed.
  • Downloading or printing of a complete book or an entire issue/volume of one or more journals (systematic downloading) is strictly prohibited.
  • Use of robots, spiders, or intelligent agents to access or systematically download resources is prohibited.
  • Systematic downloading causes publishers to block the entire community of users from accessing these resources. Any violation will result in penal action.

User-Undertaking

"I understand the policy outlined above and undertake to abide by it. I understand that any violation of the policy will result in loss of my library privileges and/or other action as deemed appropriate by the Institute."

General Rules & Regulations

Every B.Tech. (UG) & M.Tech. (PG) Student is eligible for 6 (Six) Non-transferable Library Borrower Cards, on which she can borrow 6 Books for a Period of 14 Days.
In case the Book is lost, the Borrower has to REPLACE the Same Edition or the LATEST EDITION of the Lost Book. If the Book is not available the borrower has to pay Two times the COST of the Book.
All the Students should RETURN their Library Borrower Cards after completion of their Course and obtain a NO-DUE Certificate from the Library.
While borrowing the Book(s), the student is advised to ensure that the Book(s) is in PROPER condition. If any Pages are MISSING or DAMAGED, inform the same to the Library Staff on Duty.
The students should get the borrowed books CHECKED at the EXIT GATE and cooperate with the Library Staff.
Avoid making Pencil / Pen Marks, Underlining, or any other type of Damage to the Book(s). If any such things are noticed at the time of returning the books, the Borrower will be held RESPONSIBLE for replacement of books.
REFERENCE BOOKS & JOURNALS are NOT for ISSUE and they should be referred WITHIN the Library only.
Book Bank Books will be issued to SC/ST students.
Consult the Library Staff on Duty for any other Information or Clarification.

Cell Phone talking and using of MP3 players are NOT allowed inside the Library.
Students are advised to bring their ID Cards, whenever they visit the Library.
Students are advised NOT to take more than one copy of the Same Book.
Students are advised not to keep any valuables in their bags kept outside the Library counter.
Library Staff are not responsible for any such loss.
All the Borrowed Books (incl. Book Bank, BLS Books) are to be returned to the Library.
Reprography facility is available at Library for Photocopying.
On leaving the Library, all users are requested to extend their cooperation for the Inspection of all books and items taken out of the Library.
Borrowers should RETURN the books ON or BEFORE the Due Date i.e. 14 days duration from the date of Issue. Defaulter will be fined.
